Default RE: for the lock on hunters?

I've done it a couple times. And I have moved stands to sit in in that evening several times (as many have I'm sure). Though less since I got a real job and could afford a couple more stands. The times I have done it in the morning, I had already sat in that tree before. I knew about where the stand goes, and had holes in the tree to screw in the steps. Then haul the stand up, hang it and sit. If it is in a tree I have been in, I know how to set the stand, and have lanes cut, and the holes are in for the steps, so the dark isn't really much of a handicap. My favorite kind of stand for quiet setting was some homebuilt ones my dad made years ago. A screw in step has a ring welded onto it, and a hook on the stand slides into it. Couldn't be easier to set. Then dad had one pull out, and they all got a second hook welded on, and uses 2 screw in rings.

And the stands with the backpack straps are much easier to make quiet for hauling. I put a foam pad I sit on between the upright and platform, right at the seat joint and cinch it down with a ratchet strap. I have even stuck my backpack in between and cinched that in when I need to carry the backpack. I prefer the kind of stand with a chain over a strap, but one really has to be careful if he wants to carry it and set it quietly.
