Buck's home range....Greg's post got me thinking...
I've been forutnate enough to take 2 good deer representative for my area......from one spot (killed them less than 40yds from one another).
If a mature buck's home range (according to D&DH Mag.) gets smaller and smaller as he ages......what's the prognosis for the area I mentioned?
I have seen (actual sighting) 2 deer that are 3.5yrs or older in this area. They are now dead. I have trailcam photos of one other deer from this area.
Is it likely another deer (juvenile) will move into this area and make it his home range? I'm sure it will happen eventually.....there's too many ladies for it not to. But a mature buck ......if he's already established his home range.....according to the article....he won't budge very easily.
It's my theory that I'm likely due for a "lapse" (if you can imagine) in mature buck sightings for possibly a year or more......or until one of the juveniles establishes himself in this area.
What say ye?
