Shooting a mother with cubs is Illegal
Baiting is the norm, for the above reason
I have done it once, I baited in 3 cubs and a mother, I was scared to death[&:]
It also allows you to judge the size of the boar to make sure it's a trophy. By hanging a bait high above the barrell the boar will stand and stretch to reach/smell it giving you a chance to size him up.
