While I can fully understand your question, for me there would be no "dilemma" at all. IMO, a guy can't have too many places to hunt.
We have a family farm of roughly 300 acres and it will always be my favorite and most sentimental place I will ever hunt. But as mentioned, 300 acres is not that big if being constantly hunted and leaving scent coming and going, etc.
Having an additional property that I have sole control of 20 miles away allows me to not "overhunt" either place. And as far as the herd management aspect, what I have done the last several years and will continue to do is to get young people involved in bowhunting in inviting them to help me thin out the does a couple of weekends out of the season.
I have already converted to 20 something "gun" hunters to bow only and havepromised a 16 yo hunting fanatic that I am going to take him this fall and he can't wait.
