Not the ones I have owned. I have owned two rugers and two marlins, and have friends that have both as well. My experience has led me to believe the Marlins are better for the money if you just want to shoot them out of the box. Normally more accurate and work fine.

Now if you want to customize you simply can't go wrong with a ruger, you can do virtually anything to them.
