RE: Ok Ethics Police ........2 Part Question .................................................
We have three different bordering landowners around our farm. We all have stands near property lines. I personally would not shoot across the lines but I am not 100% sure the other landowners wouldn't. That being said i would retrieve any deer I shot on our landoff of their land. One landowner and us havea great relationship, kind of like a 100 yard neutral buffer That applies to shooting and we can retrieve deep onto his land(we still try to get hold of him). The other private landowner we don't know at all, we have had a couple of issues with stands being placed on our side of the line which at first was understandable because he was new to the area but after he heavily posted his land I expected him to know where the hell he was, it seems likehe does but we still are wary on that side.I would not carry a weapon on his land and if I had to rerieve on him I would attempt to contact him and I would mark the area I shot the deer and the entire bloodtrail leading to his land just to be safe,we are going to try and meet him this turkey season or summer to kind of developa more neighborly relationship if possible. Thethird owner is atimbercompany leased by a huntclub, no weapons carried onland by either partybut we have a gentlemans agreement about retrieval but with any club where there are lots of guys hunting some follow the rules and some don't, so we keep our eyes on them.
Knowing the surrounding landowners and exact property lines is vital and we generally try to approach everything as gentleman and fellow sportsmen initially. Then we go from there.
