Yesterdays Pheasant Hunt
I have to post this, maybe its braggin but damn it was good
yesterday I took my son and Max (Our 8 month old lab) to a tower shoot. Iwill have to say his holding and release on command was pretty darn good, and the rest was perfect in my eye. he got to retrieve two Pheasant from the tower shoot ( my sone retrieve one also), and had one stollen from him by another dog.
Then we went out looking for all the ones that got away. Our total for yesterday in birds was 9 birds in the bag. But he again pointed all but one bird and that one flew as we walked up by him, and I never thought Max would enter the water like he did to go get that bird, but there was no hesitation entering the water this time. looks like our training on this is paying off. Now for a twist in his pointing, and I didn't train him for this. Three of the pheasant he pointed one was about 3 feet, one was about 6 feet and the other was 10 feet from him. I was in every time about 5 to 10 yards away. I looked over and he is, well what can I say looking like the traditional points you see in the magazines except for the foot up and he only did that on one bird.
My son got pics of him pointing and retrieving, so hope they turn out. Oh my son, he is hooked on this hunting now. his safety course is in two weeks then I have a hunt booked for two weeks later.
