Your asking for two different rifles. If you want an inexpensive target rifle go with the Savage Model 12 F Class in a 6.5-284. You can get the gun for around $1000. Puta decent Leupold on it and you'll be just over $1500. That gun has a 3" forarm and is set up for Benchrest target shooting. It will be a little cumbersome to hunt with. It is not a carry gun. If you want a dual purpose target rifle and good carry weight hunting rifle your chioses are unlimited. The Remington Sendaro Series are very accurate but they have the standard varmint style forarm and will not be as stable to shoot at long distance target. It will be just about impossible to compete with a benchrest quality gun with any varmint rifle at a 600 yard match. If you buy the savage get it with a faster twist barrel so it will stablize the 142 grain bullet.
