I am unfamiliar with S4, but 12 strands seems pretty reasonable. I believe S4 is a low stretch material. This may be the reason for the added noise. Its lighter, and less forgiving than your old string was. I noticed a tad bit of added noise when I switched to Winners Choice strings last season.

Do you have any accesoreis on the string? They may cause noise too.
