Somewhere around Houghton in the U.P. would be a good choice. I spent the summer up there a few years ago and loved it. The inland lakes are relatively underfished because most of the locals seem to go out on Superior instead. If you have a small fishing boat like a flat-bottomed Tracker with a trolling motor, take it along with you...you'll find some awesome fishing somewhere...and your wife can hit all the neat little shops around there while you're doing it...but keep in mind, the best fishing is the last hour of daylight in the summer 10-11...awesome action!
