I only have a straight clamp and I offset mine hard enough just to have both ends make contact. I like the diversity of the straight clamp.

Helical is an excellent way to go too.
There it is....Rob, you and I have been down this road a few times.... One is just as good as the other, as long as you have proper clearance.
