They don't leave tracks in muddy or snow covered roads 'cause they're too clever and have learnt theyselfs to leap over such places without leavin' nary a mark. Same reason none have been hit on any of our roads yet...they can glide over such obstacles with one bound.
Might find the odd track in the areas between divided highways, though.
This may be just rumor, but, I've heard that when a cougar needs to cross a road they have a sasquatch carry em across.
