Glennin, it' s not welded to the rack. I have it bolted to it with two 1/4" bolts through each base plate(2 on each side). I have loaded 8 point bucks weighing around 175-185 lbs with it by myself. I don' t think my big bear 400 could handle a small elk, let alone a big bull
