Default RE: .577 NE or .600 NE double rifle?

ORIGINAL: SwampCollie

Eld is that a Sauer or a Suhl? Heck it almost half looks like a merkel. I saw a very nice 9.3x72R Merkel double at a nearby shop for what is really a song in a double rifle.... $5500 if I recall... in fine shape too.
That is a J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Suhl. This means J.P. Sauer & Son, a company in the city of Suhl, Germany. The gun was made sometime between 1912 and 1914, according to the proof marks. It was originally made in "7,8X57R" caliber (8mm Mauser RIMMED) and in 1942 it was rechambered to 8X60RS by Kurt Anschutz, a German gunsmithing company..... The groove diameters of the barrels are .322", a little tight. But I believe that is the original size, and they shoot .323" bullets perfectly well. Here's what my 200-grain load looks like (200 GR Nosler Part.) Cases made from 7X65Rmm RWS brass.
