A thumbring fits on the thumb(obviously).The string goes into the deep part where the thumb meets the hand and the index finger gets folded over the thumb-the rest of the fingers are in a closed-fist position.The arrow is then shot off the right side of the riser(if right-handed).At least that is how the horse bows are shot.
The thumb ring can be made from bone,leather,plastic,jade,silver,etc
