My dad has a 6.5mm Rem Mag, standard load is 120gr shoots out the barrel at about 3000fps, maybe 3100, I think he got it back in the 70s, its funny because it's basically a short mag from years ago, whereas now they have the .270 WSM, why don't they just relaunch classic quality old cartridges? I think a 6.5 WSM or even a .257 WSM would be a nice round, the .257 could go right at the .257 WBY, and would be a shorter cartridge. And why build a .270 WSM? to give the .270 Win competition? I know the .270 WSM packs a tad bit more of a punch, but cmon, I'd much rather have seen a .257 WSM or .264 / 6.5mm WSM than a .270 WSM.
120grs at 3000 fps is actually close to and inferior to the .270 win which can be loaded with 130 gr at near 3100 fps.
