Default RE: Where can I get ruffed grouse or their eggs?

You would have trouble buying the eggs but you can definitely buy breeding stock. If you are serious get the magazine The Gazette, PO box 171227, Salt Lake City, Utah 84117. This publication is $25 a year and lists all kinds of game birds for sale. You can expect to pay $200 to 300 a pair for them and if you haven' t any experience raising them you' ll probably lose them before you ever get an egg out of them. They are among the easier grouse to rear in captivity but all grouse are very susceeptible to diseae. You almost have to raise them on wire floored pens also cocks like to kill the hens when the can' t get away from them. I used to raise Sharptail and Prairie Chickens and it is fun but a real challenge. Oh yes one more thing most states require a domestication or propagation permit from your DNR or whatever it is called in your state. I am not trying to discourage you but their is a lot more to it than raising a few chickens.
