Whats wrong with using rubbing alcohol or something of that nature?
I'm not a Chemist, but I have been told there is an oil in rubbing alcohol, not good for making things stick

I've heard the same thing. I think that's why they call it "rubbing alcohol". 91% or higher is better.
Depends on what you buy. If you buy it without additives, it's just alcohol and water as a dilutent. Some of that "fancy" stuff (not the stuff we'd use anyhow) had perfumes and dyes etc, in it, but additive free Rubbing alcohol, is just Isopropyl Alcohol and distilledwater to meet the %-age desired.
