I also have my doubt's on SEVERAL THOUSAND rounds. But I also have my doubt's many are going to shoot that many out of a RUM. Bigcountry I wouldn't blame the gunsmith I have an Improved RUM known as a 300 Tomahawk and I see more throat erosion than I like to see at 500 rounds, maybe 550. I guess if your shooting a big gun like the 300 RUM you want the very best accuacy, after all why buy a gun capable of making shots out to a 1000 yards and it not be accurate?
I hope you're shooting paper at 1000 yards and not live animals!

If you're shooting paper, you're probably taking target rifle accuracy. I'd think the 300 RUM would/could last a hunter many, many rounds. What's an accuracy loss of 1/4" to even 1/2" at 100 yards to "most" hunters. Of course a lot depends upon the initial accuracy of the rifle to begin with. Myself I'll skip the overbored barrel burners. A 300 Win. Mag. is as fast a 300 caliber as I see as really practical.
