Default RE: Question about switching bullets

To know the sabot to match, you need to know the diameter of the bullet. The caliber will also help but not totally. For instance most of the .44 caliber bullets will be a .429-.430diameter. You thenwould need a .430 diameter sabot, normally green in color. In the .45 caliber you will normally find them to be .451-.452 or .457-.458 diameter. The then needs the .452 sabot, usually black in color,or the .458 sabot which are ornage in color.

Another thing to take into consideration is the diameter of the bore. Some of the tight bore rifles like an E-Z load sabot, HPH-24, or Harvester Crushed Rib sabot. Some of the larger bore rifle can take a conventional thickness sabot.

Bulk bullets can be purchased from most stores. Hornady, Speer, Sierra, Nosler, and other brands all make bulk bullets. Look at their diameter, then order the appropiate sabot to fit them, and the sabot thickness to match your rifle bore.
