I think the biggest factor is being able to take that deer in that ONE YEAR where he is at his full potential, and had the right antler configuration so he wouldnt be hurt by non typical kickers. One year he can be just a few inches short, the next a perfect, symmetrical rack that could break the record, and the next he can grow a few non typical points that really hurt the score.
