Default RE: Traditions scope mounting

ORIGINAL: skeeter 7MM

ORIGINAL: wabi

I had to use a set of see-through rings to mount my scope with the rear sight left on the barrel. Didn't try high rings, but low were way too low so I figured I might as well try see-through.
Why not just remove the rear site and put in filler screws in the tapsso you could mount the scope to fit you??? If for some reason you wanted to have the iron site left on then I would have found either a mount or scope/objective that would not need to use see thru's. They are weak and poor design...sorry just my opinion. I'll admit it's based on experience[&o].

As Cayugad mentions fill in the blanks with as much info as possible:
gun model, scope, mounting system (Quick Release, fixed, style prefence), usage....etc.
Skeeter,
What you suggest is exactly what I've always done in the past and I've been shooting scoped rifles for well over 40 years. I never used a set of see-through mounts until I tried them on my Traditions Pursuit Pro this past November. Actually the scope is not positioned uncomfortably for me and works fine this way. I shot a deer with it soon after I mounted the scope and sighted it in. In the actual hunting situation I used the scope and never gave the see-through mounts a thought. If rain/snow/fog had prevented good vision through the scope I could have easily used the f/o sights, but as it was I shouldered the rifle looked through the scope and made the shot without thinking of the mounts.
I was never a believer in see-through mounts and always thought of them as a poor choice until I actually used them, now I'm not so sure they aren't a good choice.
After season I removed the scope and mounts to use on a new (to me) rifle I wanted to check the accuracy potential on and the Pursuit is still sighted in with the f/o sights without me having to confirm that fact.
