RE: What the heck is up with Nugent these days
Not many people outside of the " hunting world" know who Fed Bear is (was). Back in his prime, there weren’t thousands of people trying to stop him and other hunters from hunting. If you were trying to find the " Fred Bear" of today, most people would look at someone like Chuck Adams. But again, the enemy would say " who is Chuck Adams, and why would we care about what he thinks or what he does?" To be heard, it helps to be known. Lots of famous people hunt. There are probably even quite a few that bowhunt. But how many of them are out there everyday fighting for us, defending our rights to hunt? I can only think of Charlton Hesston and Ted Nugent. As for Hesston, his fighting days are over.
Another good thing about Uncle Ted is that, like it or not, people like him are our best recruiters for young people (besides their parents). I would not be a bowhunter today if it weren' t for him. As a kid, I always went gun hunting with my beer drinking, dog running, redneck family, but no one ever taught me or showed me how to be the true hunter / ethical outdoorsman that I am today. I happened to see Ted Nugent in concert when I was 15 or 16 years old. He shot a flaming arrow at a huge speaker from his bow, on stage. That started it all for me. I say we need more people like Ted Nugent.
