I used to live in the NYC/New Jersey area. Those gun laws do suck. Finger printing and an affidavit of characterareparts of the process in New Jersey if I remember correctly.

After moving to Arizona I couldn't believe that the only requirements were 18+ years old (21+ for handguns) and a clean record. An Arizona drivers license is the only ID required. Instant background check means you can buy a gun in less time than it takes to go grocery shopping.

I still remember what the clerk said to me when I bought my first gun in Arizona, a Winchester 94: "Welcome to free America."
