A .270 Win., .280 Remington, or a .30/'06 will be fine for hunting big game, (deer and everything except Alaskan Brown bears and Polar bears).use a 12-ga. for turkey and goose hunting because the 12 will throw more shot.
As alad growing up in Alaska, (60s and 70s) my dad and dad in law took all of their game with an '06. There weren't that many all around guns out there, and the 30-06 was the Alaskan go to gun. Now everyone hunts with the super guns, when a 30-06would take down anything my pop hunted back home (Alaska) including bear.
