While hunting Rio's in SW Oklahoma a few years back, my hunting partner and I stalked up on a wheat field covered with birds. This was no small wheat field. The closest birds were 200+ yards away, and they didn;t seem too interested in anything we had to say (our calls). As we were resting our backs against a giant pecan tree, a hog fight broke out behind us near the creek. The wild squeeling immediately caused the birds to gobble. For some reason, that "loosened the up" and we called in two fat toms. They gobbled and strutted each time we called after the pig episode.

I've heard turkeys gobble at thunder, trains, an inadvertant slamming of the truck door, you name it. I haven't seen those things cause the turkeys to break from their hen friends like they did as mentioned above.
