Moose aren't as tuff as elk to bring down and the 270win is a very fine deer/elk/moose cartridge. The 30-06 would be better for the elk/moose do to its heavier bullets. If shots are not over 250 yards or so you will never see or need the long range advantage of the magnium cartridges. stick to a better handling and lighter stardard rifle for a all purpose gun. A 2-7 or 3-9 power scope is all you will need and they will be better for close shots from 20-50 yards than the trendy higher magnifacation/ larger bell scopes they aremore for specialty long range riggs not all purpose guns.
