RE: turkey chokes?
If you want an easier way to look at this choke/combo thing this is what I found with all my testing.
Chokes and patterns run in Levels
the price of a choke will get you a level of a pattern no matter what shell you shoot.
The higher the quality the higher the level of pattern you’re going to achieve.
When chokes are milled they are done in different ways. You have
Short chokes that fit even with your barrel.
Long chokes that are extended out past the end of your barrel.
These choke tubes are built fora reason. The extended chokes have necks or tapers milled into them. Some have short tapers and some have long tapers. The more of a taper that is in a choke the more work is needed in the choke. Themore work in a choke is the more money it costs. Then if a choke company applies porting to the choke, again you have that much more work involved.
The higher priced choke tubes are quality tubes and the shooter needs to find a shell that works best in that choke. All of these chokes will out pattern the cheaper chokes on the market.
There are 2 levels a shooter needs to think about and decide what he wants in a combo.
1/ a hunting combo - A choke and shell combo that will shoot has a constant pattern at a turkey/neck consistently.
2/ A shooters combo - something to brag about- A shooter that changes chokes and loads to come up with a combo that is high above an average turkey hunter.
Number 2 takes a lot of money and testing all the time. As new equipment comes out the shooter is on this equipment to test it.
The average turkey hunter only wants a pattern that is well above average gun used. To get this with a savings in the money department, you would be better to spend that $100.00 bill for a good quality choke and test the same shells that you would on a normal base.
Spending money in cheap made chokes only adds up to a quality choke and in the end you pay more because you will end up buying one of the quality chokes.
I have seen this for years from lots of hunters wanting that good turkey choke/shell combo...
