RE: Decoy delema
Sorry I' ve been gone so long. I' ve been busy with my elk research (until November last year). I' ve also been on the road giving seminars at Deer Classics and Sport shows since early February. Two more shows and then I can hunt turkey here in MN, and then to MO for another turkey hunt.
As far as decoys go; I told Feather Flex to put a fan on a decoy several years ago; they came out with them, and several other companies did too. Most of them work.
I' ve used both full strut and half strut jakes, and had good success, and bad success. The good success was when I placed the jake decoys in a shooting lane, with the hens off to one side. When toms (not jakes) come in they often go for the jake first (to exert dominance), and that' s when I shoot.
The bad succes was when the toms or jakes wouldn' t come in, probably because there was something wrong with the setup, or the bird just didn' t feel like responding. There is no telling which birds will respond to what setup, or when.
