My main method for hunting mature bucks is setting up in a funnel between two doe bedding areas during the rut. The reason being that these locations (there's that word again) put the most mature buck traffic right in my lap. A good place to start is with a creek bottom....
This is my primary method ofencountering mature bucks as well. As the rut intensifies, you will be assured of seeing bucks that you would otherwise have no chance of seeing due to them being extremely cautious or entirelynocturnal. During those few precious days, they will drop their guard and begin actively seeking out does by traveling funnels between doe bedding and feeding areas throughout the day and night. Pick the tightest funnel on your land between these areas and be prepared to sit all day. Most of the truly mature bucks I see morning huntingare either at very first light, or late morning to mid-day, when many hunters decide to take a break. Sit tight and you should have very good possibility to see big deer provided your hunting area holds big deer, which is obviouslyconfirmed by you first through early season scouting.
