RE: crossbow ?
I will agree with what others say, but also it is not like it is night and day to a summit. The scout has 250 FPS compared to the summit of 260 and the KE is 60# compared to a summit of 61#, not like you are stepping down to a BB gun or something. Put them numbers up to a vertical bow and most would say you are just fine and ok. But as others said you will need to keep your shots close. I think and have seen with mine that a CB runs out of gas real fast. So I think thirty yards would be pushing it. I also would say that CB is a fine lung buster only, it may not have to power to make it past a shoulder should you ever have a bad shot. So IMO keep your shots close and make sure you hit lungs every time and you will be fine.
On a side not I have a old friend that I see from time to time and he is early seventies I think. He was the first guy in my county to get a deer after deer season was opened up in my area from the heard wipe out that took place in the first part of the century. One thing that he mentions from time to time is that the entire archery world took a dump when they started preaching pass through. He said the best thing for a dead deer is a arrow stuck in the lungs with out going out the other side. He hunts with a 45# and 50# recurve martin. He always tells me the quickest way to kill a deer is a sharp broad head flopping up and down in a chest cavity as a deer runs. He said the only deer he ever tracks are the ones that pass through from extra close shots, the ones that stick in all fall within sight. I know this is all way off topic, but sometimes I think about his old hunting wisdom and wander which direction we are going.
