Default RE: two more land questions

Matt that is probably what you have to do. Its tough when you can't be there alot, or live there. I bought my land 9yrs ago....first thing I did was get it surveyed and post it every 30yds with the yellow tyvek posted signs (yes name on it). I also hatchet marked the trees in between the posted signs with 3 notches, and painted them blaze orange. There is NO missing my property line, you can see it from a long way off. I repost and repaint EVERY year, right before the season so it is fresh. My property line looks like a neon line, no matter where you are.

Next thing I did was drive to and meet in person each of my neighbors....we don't have a ton of people around us (larger properties). I told them I had posted my lines very well, and would not allow trespassing -and would not trespass on their land. I told them I hunted alot, and asked if they did. They ALL did. I told them if they ever shot a deer and it came on my land, by all means go and get it. I told them I wanted to become friends with all my neighbors, and that I respected their property, and expected they respect mine. I also told them that I would prosecute if I caught trespassers, so to make sure they told their guests.

Now, the first couple years...I saw signs of trespassers, but never caught one. I think it was guys that used to lease the property before I bought it...sneaking back in. After that, I never saw any sign, but did catch one guy....and he said he was trailing a doe. He was, he showed me the blood. I followed the blood with him (scant blood trail that left my property onto another neighbors), then ******ed him off my land and told him if I caught him again, I would prosecute. He said he wouldn't be back, and that he was a guest of one of my neighbors.

Since then, I have had no problems, though in the back of my mind....I am always looking. Hopefully it will continue. Good luck.
