Default Effort to find good land

How much effort do you put into finding good hunting land?

Myself, this has been a weakness, but I am getting better at being motivated to find spots I am confident in. I am HORRIBLE when it comes to blindly knocking on doors. I get up the nerve maybe once or twice a year and make a stab at it.
I'm also not that good at "pressuring" people who I feel only half heartedly offer me to hunt thier place out of politeness, but really don't mean it. Maybe I should be more aggressive?

One thing I am growing on is to put the effort into is public land. Yea it gets a bad rap in places, but for me, everyone is even there, and I don't have to face the anxiety of asking permission

So what is it? Are you a door knocker? Do you travel to far off areas and wear out boot after boot until you find something?Have you worked yourfingersto the bone to afford your own? Do you manage it if you do own it? Do you lease?
