Default RE: Remington 770

I looked at a couple of them at Walmart, they have them on closeout for $299. This was my first look at them and I wasn't that impressed. The bolt seemed klunky and no where near as smooth as my Win 70. The stock looked somewhat cool but seemed very slick, as in slippery, and did not feel secure in my hand. I think it needs some kind of rubber or checkered panels on the forearm to help with this. It did come up to the shoulder well and for me seemed to have the right height comb for scope use. I don't see that its any better and may be not as good as other guns in the lower price range that it fits into. I have not shot one so I can't comment on that so I will let others chime in on it's performance.

I was looking at it primarily for my son who wants a CF to go with his MLer. He is not a small boy (16yo 6'8" and 260 pounds) so I am looking at full size rifles. I will probably end up getting him a Savage, Weatherby, or Rem SPS but have also been looking at the Tikka and would like to check out a CZ but haven't found one to look at yet.
