The adjustment you are talking about is changing the metal washers in the recoil system.They have to be in a certain series to operate correctly.The small lever is to block off the magazineTo put another shell directly in to the pipe.This holds true for all A-5 model Brownies.If I am not right guys let me know.[&:]
