Default One new spot

I had to go visit a friend of my wife's yesterday. You know, the kind that just drives you up the wall. Total tree hugger type, animal rights, yada, yada. I wanted to stay home and watch football or work on my tractor or pull my own teeth. Anything but visit this woman. I was so wrong!
She owns a small weekend farm. 30 acres, 15 of pasture and 15 of a wooded swamp that is a deer highway travel corridor. She is a widow and I am often the guy that gets to do chores around the place that she can't handle. She calls me her"husband without benefits".
Yesterday was the last day of deer season in many Tx counties including mine. She is aware of this and asked me why I wasn't hunting. I explained that I liked sleeping in my bed not on the couch and I had to be there visiting. She got a good laugh out of that. We talked about how my season went. I told her about my lease being sold and she said,"Why don't you just hunt here?".
I was floored! She asked only that I don't drag dead animals past the house if she is there. Or that I cover them with a tarp.
I took a walk down to the swamp. There are a bunch of hardwoods with a couple of nice trails going through including a nice pinch point. I'll be hanging a stand there next year.
I have to split wood for her next weekend. I won't mind the chores as much now that I have "benefits".
It turns out that my wife had this set up with her friend since I lost the lease. I will keep looking for more land to hunt but at least I have the peace of knowing I have at least oneplace to go.
I love my wife!
