Default Be mentally in the game or stay home

Saturday morning I finally got to hunt one of my best spots. At 8:06 I notice a large doe about 70 yds in front of me. I notice 5 more deer come to the same area. I notice the large doe(I thought) dogging two of the yearlings. My heart sank a bit, and from that point I was not mentally in the game. The deer were spooked off by something. At 9:30 I decided to get down, I took one last look and notice the 5 deer had returned. So I waited them out, and 30 mins later I had a large fat doe in range. About 12 yd shot.

I pulled my Ross back and was standing to close to the base of the tree. I whack my elbow on the tree. I never really got set, when I bent at the waist to shoot the deer my arm shot forward, being I was wearing gloves I did not revover and hit the trigger. The arrow flew about 10-8 feet to the left of the deer and right into a tree. The penitration was great for the rage[&:]. Thankfully I came no where near the deer. All five just stood there wondering what kind of idiot is in that tree. They went back to eating and I sat down and laugh at myself.

When I saw the antlerless buckmy heart and ego took a hit. I should have climbed down right then and called it a year in MI. I have since pack my gear, and I am throwing in the towel in MI. Going to take a week off and head to Ohio.

If I am going to hunt I owe it to the deer to be in the game, I am just thankful I blundered so bad I completely missed the deer.

After glassing the antlerless buck for 30 mins orso I was sure who it was.

Here's to you Mr. Mass, you kick my arse. Until next year, which for me starts Jan 2nd in MI. I have ordered 5 more stands, so I can hunt more spots to try and get him next year. I already have a plan of attack. Do some more scounting in Jan, but for the most part I know where to go.
