With our new harvest reporting system in Iowa this year, you have to state whether your take is a doe, button buck, antlered buck or a shed buck. During the shotgun seasons (Dec. 1-16), there were over 500 bucks taken that had shed their antlers already. It is becoming a real concern since we have late antlerless seasons meant to reduce the number of does in the herd that run clear into January. Come to find out, what appear to be large does are often bucks that have shed already. Not exactly the desired outcome.
