Once you have an idea about what weight of bulletor bullet/sabot combination that your rifle prefers, then buying some bulk sabots and a box of lead bullets in the same weight class will give provide some cheaper fodder for experimentation.
Lighter weight and length bulletswill usually workin a fast twist barrel, and some folks say that even round ballswith the right size sabot willshoot okay.
I heard that some of the Knight rifles willshoot patched round balls fairly good too.
There's nothingwrong with downloading and shooting at shortand mid-distance ranges.
round ball out of a inline? that was going to be a future ???. lol
I been waiting for a local gunshop to get some gold dots back in stock, everytime I ask they try to sell me .500. I am going to have to break down and order some online. I think 225 gr to 300 gr bullet. I mainly shot 50 to 100 yrds and the range I go to is only 150. the deer I shot was at most 75 yrds and closed to less then 25. every deer I missed but one was under 75 yrds. the one was about 200 yrds. but that is the past. I hope the far past.
I may still give the xtps another chance. I have them in .430 240gr (I bought), 250gr(given to me), and 300gr (walmart closeout). I may use my supply up before getting anymore. I still have 5 xtps in .452 with mag express sabots might use those next time.
it is starting to sound like a busy jan - mid oct. I am going to work with def. powders and charge wights too. every time I went to do that, something went wrong.[8D]
