As Pawildman says, a good coat of a paste wax willprotect the stock. Something like Johnson's for hardwood floors works well. As for protection of metal, use Birchwood Casey SHEATH. It will totally prevnt rust, doesn't have to be swabbed out of the bore/.chamber before shooting, and will NOT rot/damage wood, as will some machine oils that can soak into the wood and weaken it.
