Default Tried the Rage 2 Blade

I tried a new broad head last night (Rage 2 blade).

Pro’s:
+ The head is well designed and manufactured.
+ Each 3-pack comes with a practice head.
+ The heads can be disassembled and the blades interchanged or sharpened.

Con’s:
- You have to keep an eye on the blades to make sure they haven’t deployed in your quiver. It is possible for the blades to slip or be pushed back past the rubber retainer. They would probably not fly well if they were shot with blades deployed and the exposed blades could be a hazard.
- They’re expensive ($30 for three broad heads and one practice head).

The shot(s): My first opportunity was a small doe that came under my tree from behind last night. While I was trying to confirm that she did not have buttons, I heard another deer approaching from behind. The second deer emerged from under my tree and I confirmed she was a nice sized doe. We are in desperate need of eliminating does so I set up to shoot her. She turned broadside at about 15 yards in a relaxed posture and I shot her through both lungs from above. She ran less than 50 yards and piled up on a creek bank within sight. The small doe remained nearby trying to figure out the situation so I checked for buttons with my rangefinder (getting bino’s from Santa…) and then shot her too. She went less than 30 yards and fell over dead.

A third doe lingered on the edge of my effective range but I dropped my third arrow while hurriedly pulling it from the quiver. There is a lesson in every hunt.

Both arrows cleanly passed through and I could seethe blood trails from my tree. The wounds were huge and the blood trails could be followed at a walk. The rear deploying action seems to support better penetration. I don’t want to spark a broad head debate but if you haven’t tried the Rage 2 blade then you should consider them.

GMMAT come shoot some does!
