No experiance at all with the new Ruger Hawkeye but Rugers in general are good quality,tough rifles built for hunting..not just sitting in the safe looking pretty. Everyone has a favorite cartiridge and the 280 is mine. IMO the 280 is the greatest thing since sliced bread
