RE: Late season deer movement question(s).....
GMMAT, I have found that later in the season, that the deer like to bed on top of hills on the south-southeast side. They will start feeding usually the last 45 minutes of daylight. It seems that they have a reason for what they are doing and usually they will be moving at a good rate to get to wherever they are feeding. If you can find a place with thicker cover on top of a hill, etc., then you will have a chance at ambushing them as they exit to feed. Now if that bedding area leads out to wide open land, then the deer will find the narrowest/thickest line of cover to travel to get to their food source. If you can set-up along that line of cover, the one they use to get where they are feeding, then I would say you have a decent chance to get a shot off. Make sure you are entering your stand in a manner that does not allow those deer to detect you as you set-up. They are up high and noise travels upward, so enter slowly and quietly from an angle that prevents you from being seen...you may even have to set-up in a less desirable stand location just to give yourself a shot at getting within range without getting picked off when you are entering. Good luck.
