The beauty of a .22mag is that a fmj or solid bullet leaves exactly the same wound channel as a .22lr except with more penetration and range. The rifle's accuracy will determine your max effective range. For example,my kimber is accurate out to 150 yards while my ruger ans marlin are accurate to 100 yards max for squirrel sized game.
