I have a M44 that I got earlier this year, and finally got to fire it this week. What a sweet gun. The 7.62x54r packs a hell of a punch. I'm just curious if any of you guys have hunted with one, and what you have taken with it?

I killed two deer with a Mosin this year; passed up on a number of shots I'd have taken with my scoped 336, because I don't feel as confident in the Mosin. It is a powerful round; I used 200gr Wolf SP.

The M44 will kill deer, but is not a very good choice. Rotten trigger, sights, loud, muzzleblast... and a little heavy.
