RE: Whats the Feeling on Savages?
I always get a kick out of when you ask what people think of Savages you will get posts about custom M70' s with McMillan stocks and Krieger barrels that the action cost a good bit more than any of my savages and the entire gun would go many times the cost.Interesting comparisons,I wonder how much better than 1/2" they shoot for all that $?I guess if you asked in a post what everyone thought of the Bushnell 3200 elite or Nikon Monarch there would be some post and tell you about how much better a S & B or Swarovski scope for 3 or 4 times the price is.Not sure what the point is since anytime you spend 3-4 times the money you better darn sure get something more for it!CRF is great for dangerous game but in 30 years I' ve never had a savage fail to feed or cost me a single game animal.I think a gun that costs as little as $350-400 complete and shoots tight groups out of the box without glass bedding, action blueprinting, new barrels, different extractors, and aftermarket stocks might make some guys a little edgey that had to do that to theirs in order to get those tight groups.I' ve got a savage 12FV that I have a TOTAL of $425 in, that with a 10 minute trigger adjustment and a Bushnell 4200 scope will shoot .500 all day with factory ammo! Two different brands no less(Hornady 55grVX,Winchester 45gr HP),cartridges have never popped out and its never failed to feed or shoot 100%.Hard to believe with one of those " cheaply made" savages [:-]and none of the costly modifications either. Not slaming Winchester or Remington but go get one and take it out of the box and adjust the trigger grab some factory ammo and see how she does.
