Default RE: how do you.....

Are you asking how do you physically attach the stand to the tree, or how do you go about getting the stand up to where you want it and all that jazz? I'll try to hit both I guess, just in case. When I have used hang on stands, I've always carried a second tow rope up the tree. I don't own any climbing sticks of any kind and the screw in pegs are illegal on public land in WI, so I generally just find a tree that I can safely climb to a decent height by just using branches (obviously not the safest way of doing things, but I'm still young and athletic and can pull it off quickly and pretty safely). Once I get to a height I want to be at. I'll attach my harness strap to the tree, preferably over a limb, eliminating any chance of the strap sliding down should I fall. From there I pull up my stand. Now, this is where things can vary depending on the type of hang on you have.

I have an old Alumalight (sp?) that has the platform drop down by fixed/unadjustable cables, most new ones can be adjusted I believe so that the platform can be made level, even if the tree isn't straight. Since I don't have the option of trying to get my hang-on level, that is one step I don't have to worry about. After I pull up my stand I strap it on with the ratchet straps (2 of them) and climb onboard, adjusting my harness as needed. Where this step can differ is with the leveling of the platform. After you have the stand hung, now is where you would adjust the platform (I think, again, I don't have this type of stand).

Hope this is sorta what you were looking for
