Default RE: New to yote hunting

Ok, better check your state regs to see if your state allows you to hunt them at night. Before I knew it was illegal, I used to night hunt A LOT, and thought hunting in the day was a waste unless you were using horses/mules and dogs. BUT, it' s not legal here in KS, so I haven' t done it here in YEARS. Night hunting is the best if it' s legal, because they are a hundred times more active at night than day, use a challenge tape, pup distress tape, howler tape, or a rabbit distress tape (get the same rabbit that the yotes you' re hunting would eat most, no jackrabbits here, so they wouldn' t know what that is?), set up with you' re rifle and a highpowered spotlight with a red filter, get them in close enough to get two shots off, then pick your shot.

In the day, you' ve got to be much more descrete, you have to cover your scent twice as well as you would for deer, you probably need to have some bait (go rabbit hunting ahead of time) and a really good caller, cuz they are a hundred times less active in the day, so they might be too lazy to come, and they' re a million times more wary, and can see much better in light same as you and I. Set up much the same as night, but in a better concealed position and without the lights.

Most of the time, you' ll see one about a quartermile off up wind of you, that' s when you need to turn around VERY SLOWLY, and shoot the 5 yotes that are behind you 50ft. waiting for you to run from the one making himself obvious right into them.
