Personally, I'd want the .308 to be short action. So yes, I would get a 700 S/A somehow. Whether it be from trading or whatever. I think you'll be more than satisfied with the .308. Just make sure you make the right decisions when it comes to barrel length and contour because that makes a huge difference when it comes to target shooting at extended ranges.
