Default RE: LOOKING FOR HELP

thelmick,
Let me chime in one more time. I can understand the unsure feeling when taking on a new hunting location. Like i said before, never hunted that exact area but this is what i would do if it were me... Will you have time to scout out any area? chances are no if its going to be a "quick trip" down to sunny Florida. So if this is the case your going to have to just go in after them. First, if you havent experienced mosquito's here, be prepared! Ya January...although it could be a bit cooler, dont expect that to stop your boots from lifting off the ground due to one million buzz'rs lifting you away! Uncented wipes / spray is a must. Also be ready to get wet. Rain not as likely in Jan. but trompin thru the muck is a big possibility. Also remember the deeper in you go, the farther you have to drag it out[&:]but if you want to secure meat for the day, you need to get in the "thick" of it.
Now i like to "still hunt", finding thick dense cover, near water with hog signs such as tracks leading thru brush tunnels, mudwallows and the base of trees with mud, a deff sign hogs have been spending time there. Walk SLOOOWWW then stop... repeat ....repeat....Trying to locate food sources not so easy as they eat anything! Hogs can see better than most think, they can hear even better andcan smell the taco bell you ate two days ago.... so keep the wind to your advantage! Ive walked up on hogs within 20 yrds with the wind to my advantage but once your sented, your done. If you have theright wind and still spook them....hang out, although they are smart, they are more HUNGRY! they often return. One other thing isbelieve it or not, you can smell their presence when you get close. Sorry if i made this sound elementary, im not familiar with how familiar you are with hogs..... Hope this helps a bit. This is just the advice of one person... so take all you can get and put it together
